BT Enterprise Contact Management

TechnologyBT Contacts

  • Microsoft ASP.NET using C#
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6

Background

Various departments within British Telecommunications keep a record of activities and interactions with contacts such as public officials, journalists and industry analysts. These records were being stored using Microsoft Exchange and managed using custom forms in Microsoft Outlook calendars.

It became apparent that Outlook was not the best system to continue with due to the slow response times in searching the data. UniTech was selected to re-design the system.

Requirements of the replacement system

  • Improve speed and performance
  • Carry over the Outlook look and feel to minimise user disruption and training
  • Rapid development
  • Make more extensible
  • Migration of existing data from Outlook

Benefits experienced

  • Search performance improved x100
  • Improved visibility across departments and contacts
  • Transparent sign-on through Windows authentication
  • Rapid deployment of upgrades

Project description

The development work took one month to complete. Approximately 1,600Mb of information was migrated from Exchange Server into the SQL Server database, comprised of over 7000 contacts, 15,000 appointments and 10,000 associated documents. The application is hosted entirely within BT's intranet and is used daily by over 20 staff.
