  • Macromedia ColdFusion MX
  • Microsoft SQL 2000

Background

Oxford University Press is a worldwide publishing company that sells a wide range of products on many different types of media.

UniTech redeveloped the existing online shopping basket for the sale of books, CD-ROMS, and printed music to bring it up to date with current technologies and improve the user experience. At the same time, three new shopping baskets were launched using the same technology in order to sell online journals, online products, and software.

Business requirements

  • Improve user experience by reducing number of screens and storing key information
  • Develop in a modular fashion to make system more extensible
  • Implement look and feel supplied by the client

Benefits experienced

  • Increased sales due to a larger percentage of customers completing purchases
  • Ease of development of additional features
  • Ability to make changes to some shop features without the need for more software development

Project description

The system was developed with Macromedia ColdFusion MX using the Mach-ii framework. It provides shopping baskets for multiple stores and a full administration system which offers order management, abandoned basket monitoring, refunds, shipping, reporting and site customisation.

The application database uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000. All credit card information is protected with asymmetric encryption at all stages of the process.

Credit card payments are handled using the DataCash payment gateway, which provides a cost-effective solution for OUP's needs. UniTech is a DataCash referral partner.
