The UniTech developed & UniTech Content Management System (UCMS) managed BT Inclusion site at www.btplc.com/inclusion has been certified accessible by the Royal National Institute for the Blind and receives RNIB's 'See it Right' accessible website logo – becoming the first FTSE100 Company to achieve this accreditation.
The site was built and developed using UniTechCMS, which has been used by BT since 2001, and has achieved all 3 Priority levels of accessibility necessary to meet International Standards after undergoing a strict Audit process by the RNIB's Access Consultancy Service. This was achieved through the use of an ‘accessibility parser’, a bespoke piece of software created by the development team at UniTech, and implemented to aid the identification and correction of content failing to meet the required standards.
UniTech were key in contributing to this success, working in partnership with BT over the course of several months as the site was assessed and tested against strict criteria defined by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), part of the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) commitment to lead the Web towards a high degree of accessibility for people with disabilities.
With over 2 million people in the UK alone with sight problems, this is a fantastic achievement for both UniTech & BT Plc.
